There are some dreams that arrive so early in life that they feel less like a passing childhood idea and more like a glimpse into who you are becoming. For Dr. Halle T. Robinson, dentistry was that dream. Long before earning her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Nova Southeastern University, building a career serving children and families throughout the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, or becoming a children’s author, she already knew she wanted to become a dentist.
“Honestly, God,” Dr. Robinson says when asked what inspired her to pursue dentistry. “I have been saying that I wanted to be a dentist since I was around three or four years old.”
As a child, she remembers loving her visits to the dentist. The office felt “bright, fun, and vibrant,” and because she was fortunate not to associate dentistry with trauma or pain, those early experiences created a positive connection that stayed with her. As she moved through high school, college, and dental school, that childhood dream continued to grow alongside her.
“I realized that God had placed my professional assignment inside of me a very long time ago,” she shares. “I have never wanted to pursue another profession. Dentistry has always felt like what I was called to do.”
Today, Dr. Robinson is using that calling to make dental care feel less intimidating and more empowering for children and their families. Her work recognizes something every parent understands: teaching children how to care for themselves is not simply about giving instructions. It is about finding ways to make important lessons relatable, memorable, and enjoyable.
That philosophy inspired her children’s book, I’m Friends with the Tooth Fairy, a creative educational resource designed to help children feel more comfortable with losing a tooth while learning about the importance of oral health.
Choosing the Tooth Fairy as the central character was intentional. Losing a tooth can be one of the earliest experiences that connects a child directly to dentistry, making the familiar childhood figure a natural bridge between imagination and education.
“The Tooth Fairy is already connected to one of the most memorable dental milestones of childhood, so she felt like the perfect character to help bridge imagination and oral health,” Dr. Robinson explains. “I wanted to use something children already recognize as magical and exciting to create a positive connection to their teeth, their smiles, and dentistry.”
That same spirit carries through the book’s accompanying plush toy, giving families another interactive way to talk about oral health. Brushing, flossing, dental appointments, baby teeth, and healthy habits can sometimes feel like ordinary instructions to adults, but for children, the way those lessons are introduced can make all the difference.

Dr. Robinson understands that education becomes more powerful when children can connect with it. Her approach turns a routine conversation about dental care into an opportunity for curiosity, confidence, and discovery.
And perhaps that is one of the most inspiring aspects of her journey. Dr. Robinson isn’t simply practicing the profession she dreamed about as a child; she is creating tools that can help children develop their own positive associations with dental care.
Her story also illustrates the importance of having people who inspire you along the way. When asked about her business role models, Dr. Robinson immediately recognizes the influence of her childhood dentist, whose positive presence helped shape her early interest in dentistry.
“My first dental role model would have to be my childhood dentist in my hometown,” she says. “Those early dental appointments and positive experiences truly helped shape my interest in the profession.”
As her career progressed, her sources of inspiration expanded to include mentors and dental colleagues who have made significant contributions to both dentistry and business. She admires professionals who understand that success can extend beyond personal achievement and become a way to serve others.
“I am continually inspired by people who have used their profession not only to build successful careers, but also to create meaningful impact beyond the dental chair,” Dr. Robinson says.
That philosophy can be seen throughout her own work. Her professional expertise allows her to care for patients, while her creativity gives her another avenue to reach families and make important information easier for children to understand.
For women pursuing their own dreams, there is another lesson in Dr. Robinson’s journey: success does not have to look like sacrificing every other part of your life.
Dr. Robinson believes in work-life balance, but she also recognizes that balance requires conscious choices. Building a fulfilling career and entrepreneurial life takes commitment, yet she believes there must also be room for the things that make the journey worthwhile.
“Balance is something that has to be intentionally maintained rather than something that happens automatically,” she says.
For her, that means making space for her career and entrepreneurial goals while protecting time for her faith, family, wellness, travel, and the experiences that allow her to enjoy the life she is working so hard to build.
That perspective is especially meaningful in a culture that can sometimes celebrate being busy without asking whether we are actually fulfilled. Dr. Robinson’s approach offers a different message: You can be ambitious and still make room for joy. You can pursue excellence without losing sight of the people and experiences that matter most. You can build something significant while also giving yourself permission to enjoy the life you are creating.
Her journey from a little girl who loved visiting the dentist to a doctor, author, entrepreneur, and educator is a powerful reminder that the dreams we carry early in life can sometimes hold clues about our purpose.
But her story is not only about becoming what she once imagined. It is about using that achievement to make the journey easier for someone else.
Every child who learns to feel more comfortable at the dentist, every parent who gains a better understanding of their child’s oral health, and every young person who discovers that their own childhood dream deserves to be taken seriously becomes part of the larger impact Dr. Robinson is creating.
Her career demonstrates that there is power in doing what you love, but there is even greater power in using what you love to help others.
Dr. Halle T. Robinson’s smile-centered mission reaches far beyond teeth. It is about confidence, education, family, imagination, and giving children positive experiences that can stay with them as they grow.
And for every woman reading her story who has a dream she has carried for years, perhaps the message is simple: Pay attention to the things that have always made your heart light up. Your next chapter may be waiting inside a dream you have never stopped believing in.
