Inside the Vision of MéLisa Best: Filmmaker, Storyteller, and Creative Force

Updated: Aug 22

Being That Girl isn’t just about chasing dreams, it’s about owning your power, rewriting the rules, and building something that leaves the world better than you found it. Few embody that ethos more fully than MéLisa Best, the award-winning producer, director, actor, and voice talent behind Haus of Infinity Studios. A true creative visionary, MéLisa has carved out her own lane at the intersection of film, branded content, and immersive storytelling, proving that purpose and artistry can go hand in hand.

From directing the visually striking short film PARANOIDIGM to executive producing the multimedia movement Black Women Euphoria, MéLisa’s work celebrates culture, imagination, and empowerment on every level. Beyond the screen, she amplifies voices through her podcasts Scent Stories and Musings of a Muse, reminding women everywhere that their stories, voices, and visions matter.

With grace, audacity, and unapologetic authenticity, MéLisa Best is redefining what it means to be That Girl . Not just as a title, but as a way of living in alignment with possibility, purpose, and joy.

Hello MéLisa! Thank you for chatting with the That Girl Tribe. We are deeply inspired by your career and legacy. With Haus of Infinity Studios, you’ve built a creative sanctuary that centers culture and innovation with social impact storytelling. What would you say have been some of the most memorable moments in your career so far?

MéLisa: First, thank you so much!

HAUS of Infinity Studios began this year with an incredible lift-off I’m deeply proud of. Beyond developing original scripts and pitching branded webisodes, we produced and released two films and experiences under the HAUS. The most memorable moments have been collaborating with incredibly talented, passionate people — and living in my brand’s ethos of alignment, abundance, and possibility. It’s humbling to create work that proves to me over and over that possible knows no limits.

You’ve evolved across mediums — film, branded content, and even podcasting. Please tell us about your journey navigating these creative transitions.

MéLisa: Absolutely. I’ll start by saying that everything we create is an extension of ourselves. The medium may change, but the story is always the throughline — and sometimes one project simply dominoes into the next.

My journey began in branded content, where I fell in love with being on set and leading productions — from narrative pieces to documentary-style webisodes that went on to win awards like the Shorty and the Telly Awards. That experience inspired me to launch my own studio and expand into film, media, and very soon, television.

As for my podcast, Musings of a Muse, it came from something people often told me — that my voice and perspectives had shifted something in them or inspired them in some way. So while yes, I can be a yapper (laughs), I’m also a listener. The podcast became a natural progression: a platform to pull back the curtain on the creative process, while uplifting other creatives and visionaries to stay the course and keep winning.

We are so thrilled to learn more about Black Women Euphoria. What can you share with our readers about this experience?

MéLisa: I’m thrilled to share more!

Well first, Black Women Euphoria is a transformative multimedia experience reclaiming how Black women are seen — in art, in media, and in the living algorithm of daily life. My production studio led and partnered with Palate Studios (Founder, N’Deyah Belle) and BLANC Studios New York (Co-Founder, Sydney Peterson) to bring BWE to life, and it is something we’re all proud of.

We recently partnered with EMPACT, the first action-oriented discovery platform for impact entertainment, and secured fiscal sponsorship. That means we’re now inviting funding and sponsors to continue the movement, and expand Black Women Euphoria into six cities and beyond.

As the director and executive producer of Black Women Euphoria, I was also honored to be invited to screen the film at Unseen, Unfolding at The Gathering Spot in LA, and to speak alongside five other powerhouse filmmakers (Tracey Belizaire, Maryna Bogdan, Cyn Hilaire, Monique Lindsey, Phoenix Rush, and host, Destiny Muse).

This is only the beginning. And that’s exhilarating.

Being THAT GIRL means different things to different women. For you, how does that phrase translate into purpose, power, and alignment in both your personal and professional life?

MéLisa: Oh, this is an excellent question.

For me, being THAT GIRL, means that you are exactly who you say you are. You can look at yourself in the mirror and be extremely proud of yourself; for everything you are now, and everything you unfold to be in the future.

I wrote a few months ago, “I am exactly who I say I am,” and meant it.

The receipts never lie and it’s ok to walk in that audaciously.

What are you working on as of late? Is there any exclusive information you can share with us at this time?

MéLisa: I’m always building and creating. Right now, I’m moving into the next phase of Black Women Euphoria, which is incredibly exciting. And, I just finished writing a pilot script. At its core, it’s a love letter to women who dare to start over. It’s the kind of dramedy that reminds us that reimagining is not only possible, it’s powerful. All I’ll say is, it’s a winner.

As a Black female creative visionary, what more would you like to see in creative spaces and how can established and aspiring creators go about making that happen?

MéLisa: I’d love to see more creative spaces that are truly inclusive. Too often, access is determined by what someone can pay, not by the brilliance of their vision. While I respect the realities of capitalism — and have benefited from it myself — I also see how many people are excluded from resources and proximity because of what they don’t have, rather than who they are. I believe member-only spaces have a responsibility to create opportunities that level the playing field, so that creativity isn’t confined to privilege but fueled by possibility.

As your journey continues to bloom, what message do you most want to share with visionary women building something meaningful — especially those just discovering the beauty of their voice and creative path?

MéLisa: Define success for yourself and remember that it lives in both the valleys and the mountaintops. Learn to enjoy and train yourself to see the glimmers in both phases.

Investing in yourself will be your biggest gamechanger. Answer the call and do it.

In life, you will have cheerleaders who are unconditionally supporting you; sponsors who speak your name in rooms without even posing the ask; mentors who inspire, coach, and challenge you to be the best you; collaborators who are pining to work with you; projectors who place their own fears or aspirations on to you; and then the haters. Spend more time with the former four; less time with the latter two.

And lastly, rest.
